The Long Count returns: fabric, Room 2

The first Long Count in sixteen months, with Anselm Reuter and Frieda Lux, three and a half hours each.

The Long Count came back on Saturday in Room 2 at fabric, with Anselm Reuter and Frieda Lux playing three and a half hours each, plus some overlap.

Getting them there took some doing. Coming in from Germany meant ten days' quarantine, so they landed on Monday 12 July and spent the time in the spare room in Clapton among the stock. Frieda took apart a mixer I had stopped using in about 2009, cleaned every pot in it and put it back together. Tom Ashby was pinged by the NHS app on the Thursday and spent the night on a sofa in Walthamstow, sending messages about the limiter.

The queue on Charterhouse Street went further round than it needed to, because some people still stood two metres apart. A few asked whether they should have booked a slot.

Inside, for about twenty minutes, not many people danced. They stood looking at the speakers and at one another. Frieda opened with something very quiet and left no gaps, and by around midnight I could no longer see the far wall for people.

"Connewitz Kreuz" came out two weeks ago, and she held it back until well after two. I went out for some air about then. The lorries were starting up at Smithfield.

The night did not lose money, which is a first for The Long Count. The next ones are at Phonox in August and Uebel & Gefährlich in Hamburg in September.
