The Ubu is a small concert hall in the centre of Rennes, open since 1987 according to a local heritage listing. It takes its name and its logo, the spiral gidouille, from Alfred Jarry's Père Ubu, Jarry having gone to school in the city. It is best known as one of the long-standing venues of the Trans Musicales, the Rennes festival that has spent decades trying to catch acts before everybody else does, and it still hosts Trans dates. Between festivals the programme runs from rock to electronic music, and it has held late club nights such as a Fête de la Musique session running from midnight to 6am in June 2025. Local DJs name it, along with the 1988 Live Club, among the rooms they play most. We could not find a published capacity. It is not a house institution and we are not claiming otherwise. It is included because Brittany has an audience for this music, and a city that size needs a room where someone can try something odd on a Friday.
