A 3,500 square foot basement on Jamaica Street that opened on 1 April 1987 and holds, legally, 410. Harri and Domenic have run the Saturday night Subculture since April 1994, playing just about every week, which is one of the longest residencies anywhere and a good argument for not changing things that work. Optimo held the Sunday from 1997 to 2010. In November 1999 a fire in the pub next door spread to the club, and the accidental demolition of one of its walls kept it shut until November 2002. People in Glasgow waited. In 2006 it installed what was then the largest bodysonic dancefloor in the UK, an extravagance in a room this size that makes complete sense once you have stood on it. In September 2025 it opened an archival exhibition with Alchemy, looking back over its history. The ceiling is low, the sweat is real and the Glasgow curfew focuses the mind. House DJs from all over ask to play here, and then ask to come back.
