Ata Macias and Sebastian Kahrs opened the club in 1999 on the initiative of the artist Heiner Blum, and named it after the blues musician. It sits on Nordring in Offenbach, just over the line from Frankfurt, and the city of Offenbach is not shy about calling it one of the most important house clubs in Europe. Early residents included Ata, Heiko M/S/O and Andrew Weatherall, which tells you the terms it was set up on. Since 2009 it has run its own label, Live At Robert Johnson, with Flo Reinke as curator. It appeared in DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs eight times between 2008 and 2018, peaking at 19, and came third in Groove's 2017 readers' poll. The club does not publish a capacity, and it is a small room. Doors on selected Friday and Saturday nights are listed for 23:59. There is also a book about it, which is the kind of thing that happens when a room is taken this seriously for this long.
