GLB Records boat party: I.Boat, Bordeaux
Les Quais and Noé Castaing on a converted ferry on Saturday. About 600 on the list and room for 400.
The label held a party at I.Boat in Bordeaux on Saturday with Les Quais and Noé Castaing. The room in the hull takes 400 and about 600 people believed they were on the list. Apologies to the 200 who did not get in.
I.Boat was a ferry for the Île d'Yeu, and it sits in the Bassins à Flot. There is a Funktion-One system inside the hull. Yanis Belkacem and Théo Marchand worked the bar and the door here before they made records, so they knew most of the staff.
It has been very hot in Bordeaux this month. By midnight the steel was warm to the touch and the walls were wet, and there was still a queue along the quay at two in the morning.
Noé opened. His first record for the label comes out next month, so most people did not know him. He played slowly for the first half hour, at a speed I thought was too low, and then I noticed the whole room was moving at it.
Les Quais played "Bassin à Flot" at about three, and the room sang the saxophone part. Yanis then took his sax up the stairs and played from the deck, through the open hatch, so the people on the quay could hear it too. They came back down and played the track again.
Mark Neilson spent part of the night holding onto a pipe, on a boat that is moored to the wall. He blames the heat.
The party made a small profit, some of which is going on a better guest list system.
