Craig Richards, for years a resident at fabric, started Houghton in August 2017 with the team behind the Welsh festival Gottwood. It takes place on the grounds of Houghton Hall in Norfolk, a large Palladian house with an art collection that spills out onto the estate, and the stages are tucked in woodland, clearings and lake shores with sculpture along the way. It began at about 7,000 and has grown to about 12,000. The idea is length. DJs get long sets on good systems, there is a reputation for 24-hour music, and nobody has to play the hits at 11pm for people who just arrived. Nicolas Jaar, Ricardo Villalobos, Sonja Moonear and Floating Points were among the first announced. British festivals have rarely trusted their audience this far. The 2027 dates on its site are 5 to 8 August.
