Kulturkosmos started Fusion in 1997, and it has long been held at the Müritz Airpark, a former military airfield near Lärz in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, with hangars that were captured by the Red Army in 1945 and now hold dancefloors. It lasts four to six days at the end of June. It draws about 70,000 people a year, and there is no line-up published in advance, which is either refreshing or infuriating depending on your train budget. The organisers talk about Ferienkommunismus, holiday communism. Only vegetarian food is sold on the grounds, there are film programmes and art everywhere, and tickets are hard to get. Most of the music is electronic with no stylistic rule, so house, dub and techno all have a home somewhere on site. There will be no festival in 2027. Kulturkosmos has announced a break for the year, reported in late 2025, making the June 2026 edition, the 27th, the last before it. Anyone who tells you they have 2027 dates is wrong.
